Update to G Mount Lens Roadmap Reveals Three New GF Optics

Posted on

To accompany the launch of the GFX 50R, and the announcement of the development of a 100+ megapixel GFX camera, the FUJIFILM Corporation has updated its G Mount lens roadmap, which now details three new GF lenses – two of which are zooms.

Added to the G Mount lens roadmap are the GF100-200mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR telephoto zoom, GF45-100mmF4 R LM OIS WR short telephoto zoom and a space-saving GF50mmF3.5 R LM WR standard lens.

GF100-200mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR

This telephoto zoom lens will cover a focal length range equivalent to 79-158mm on a 35mm film camera, which will make it ideal for compressing perspective and getting closer views of distant subjects. It will be compatible with the existing GF1.4X TC WR teleconverter, which will extend its focal length range to 140-280mm (111-221mm in the 35mm format.) The lens is also expected to feature Optical Image Stabilization and weather-resistant sealing to protect it from dust, moisture and low temperatures.

Packing a highly versatile zoom range, this lens will covering viewing angles equivalent to 36-79mm on a 35mm film camera, making it ideal for those occasions when you can only take one lens with you, or don’t have time to switch between prime lenses. Its flexible design is a great option for reportage and street photography as well as portraiture and events such as weddings.

Like the GF100-200mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR, the GF45-100mmF4 R LM OIS WR will use Optical Image Stabilization to protect from camera shake and weather-resistant sealing to guard against dust, moisture and low temperatures. It will also be compatible with the GF1.4X TC WR teleconverter.

GF50mmF3.5 R LM WR

This compact standard lens will be a great partner for the rangefinder-style GFX 50R camera, and is being developed in response to consumer demand for a smaller, lighter lens for the GFX system. It will offer a view equivalent to a 40mm lens on 35mm film camera, giving it roughly the same perspective as the human eye and making it a great option for street photography and reportage.

The launch of these new lenses will bring the total number of optics in the GFX system to 11. Significantly, when the new GF100-200mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR lens is accompanied by the GF1.4X TC WR teleconverter and existing GF32-64mmF4 R LM OIS WR lens, this combination will deliver focal lengths from 32mm to 280mm (25-221mm in 35mm terms). This will enable GFX photographers to cover almost any shooting situation with minimal equipment and maximum flexibility.
