Running global travel photography tours to share his passion for stunning photography
FUJIFILM GFX 50S Camera, FUJINON GF32-64mmF4 R LM WR Lens
Ken Kaminesky spent 15 years as a fashion and commercial stock photographer before taking up travel photography. This new direction rejuvenated his career and in 2012 prompted him to begin running photography tours in places like Iceland, Jordan, Tanzania, and Japan. Operating these tours allows Ken to share his love for travel and photography with avid photo enthusiasts from all over the world. In this Showcase blog post Ken shares with us some shots he took on a scouting trip to Norway and tell us what he thinks of Fujifilm's medium format powerhouse camera, the FUJIFILM GFX 50S.
"I had the good fortune of having a FUJIFILM GFX 50S to take with me photographing Norway in February 2017 on a scouting trip with Discovery Photo Tours. Since I had already decided to bring a lot of my X Series gear with me, I wanted to keep my kit as light as possible. I took only the GFX body, the Vertical Battery Grip and the FUJINON GF32-64mmF4 R LM WR. This versatile zoom lens has a field of view equivalent to 25-51mm on a 35mm format camera."
"In the future I'm looking forward to using the FUJINON GF23mmF4 R LM WR. That lens has great potential for travel and landscape shooters like me, who are constantly looking for the widest lens possible to capture the incredible vistas we encounter on our journeys."
"This was my first foray into the world of digital medium format photography. After spending a week with the GFX 50S, I was left wishing I had another week to use it even more extensively."
"The images that I was able to produce make me look forward to the next time I can get one in my hands. I have yet to see any other images that I have taken look as sharp as those produced by the GFX 50S and to me, that is what counts the most, the end result. The color rendition is also superb, but I'm not surprised at that since I've been using FUJIFILM X Series cameras almost from day one."
"For photographers who are into landscape, fashion, portrait, commercial advertising or fine art, this is a game changer. When I look at the competition in the medium format world, the cost for comparable cameras and lenses tends to be far higher than for the GFX 50S. It is also easier to hold in the hand than the medium format competition, feeling more ergonomically designed."
"The FUJIFILM GFX 50S is revolutionary in terms of offering a fantastic new medium format camera system from a company that is at the forefront of mirrorless camera technology and lens manufacturing. The price of the GFX system is also groundbreaking in that it finally makes medium format quality substantially more affordable to pro photographers and serious enthusiasts."
"Overall the camera is well thought out and is one of the most versatile of all medium format cameras on the market today. The GFX lens selection is continuing to grow rapidly, as we saw with the X Series lens stable. Fujifilm also offers the FUJIFILM H Mount Adapter G for using FUJIFILM-developed Hasselblad H Mount lenses on the GFX System, which just adds to its versatility.'
"Another exciting accessory that is available from FUJIFILM for the GFX 50S is the View Camera Adapter G, which comprises a G-type lens mount on a universal-type plate to enable the direct attachment of the GFX 50S to a view camera for working with large format lenses."
"This is one serious, professional camera that I'm looking forward to using for years to come. When this camera was announced at Photokina 2016 in Germany, the press dubbed the show Fujikina, and rightfully so."
