FUJIFILM has announced the FUJIFILM X-A5 digital camera, the smallest and lightest model in the X Series range.
This new mirrorless digital camera is equipped with a powerful new 24.2 megapixel sensor and is the first camera in the popular X-A line to feature phase detection pixels. Originally developed for the premium X Series models, these phase detection pixels help the Intelligent Hybrid AF system to focus twice as fast as previous models, meaning sharper shots than ever.
Despite this incredible new functionality, the X-A5 – when combined with the new FUJINON XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens – weighs just 496g, making it the smallest and lightest camera and zoom lens combination in the X Series.
The XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens is the first electric-powered zoom lens for the X Mount. It is lightweight and compact enough to take anywhere and with a minimum working distance of just 5cm, it is great for close-up food photography. The wide end of the lens is equivalent to 23mm on a 35mm camera, making it ideal for selfies, too. The FUJINON XC15-45mmF3.5-5.6 OIS PZ will also be available for standalone purchase, so all X Mount camera owners will be able to have access to this lightweight, compact power zoom lens.
The electric-powered zoom glides smoothly, so it can be used while shooting movies in resolutions all the way up to 4K. There is also a Burst function, which shoots 15 frames-per-second in 4K image quality and then allows you to pick your favorite shot from the sequence. To make selection easier, the camera has touchscreen controls and it is also the second X Series camera to be equipped with Bluetooth technology for automatic image transfer and location data synchronization.
The X-A5 sports a stylish, retro design. The camera is available in three synthetic leather finishes, so you can choose the look that is right for you. On the rear of the device is a 180° tilting, touch-panel LCD screen.
When the LCD monitor is flipped up, the Rear Command dial automatically switches to control lens zoom and shutter release. This makes it easier to change the focal length and shoot selfies while holding the camera at arm’s length. When shooting self-portraits, the Eye AF function takes care of the focus and the Portrait Enhancer mode offers three levels of enhancement, ensuring beautiful skin tones.
To further improve color reproduction, the camera also boasts impressive scene recognition accuracy in Advanced SR AUTO mode. The ISO sensitivity range extends to ISO 12,800, which prevents camera shake in low-light conditions and ensures sharp shots. And when writing files, the newly developed image processing engine makes the X-A5 one and a half times faster than previous models.
FUJIFILM X-Photographer Victoria Wright described the FUJIFILM X-A5 as a “fun and powerful little camera.” When asked what she thought of its functionality, Victoria said, “the X-A5 offers high-quality images, 4K video, and seamless file transfers via Bluetooth – all while staying true to the charming, retro style we love about the X-A lineup.”
