David Hobby worked for 20 years as a staff photojournalist, including ten years at The Baltimore Sun, before leaving to found Strobist.com in 2006.
Strobist has grown to become a leading resource for photographers interested in learning about photographic lighting, with millions of photographers from every corner of the globe having taken its free online courses.
In addition to the online training, Hobby has taught in person at dozens of lighting workshops all over the US and around the world.
His recent projects include: The Traveling Photographer (2014) — filmed on location around the world, for Lynda.com, Photographer’s Oil Collective (2016) — joining portrait photographers in the West with master oil reproduction painters in the Far East, X-Peditions (2018 onward) — week-long travel and photo excursions in Havana, Marrakech, Hanoi, and Dubai geared towards FUJIFILM photographers.
